Ethelred monitoring equipment now installed

31 March 2011

The energy monitoring equipment, capturing information about residents' energy usage, is now in place. This collects information about residents' energy usage and transmit the information to us using a global systems network (GSN). Also installed in a small percentage of the flats are data loggers, which will be left to gather statistics such as electricity consumption and temperature data, and collected in June for analysis.

We will now be able to monitor the impact the refurbishment has had on the estate and on residents' lives, the amount of CO2 saved, and if there have been any lasting behaviour changes as a result of our energy efficiency advice.

The energy advice so far has been met with hugely positive reactions, with nearly all the residents we have spoken to taking on at least one pledge to be more energy efficient in the home, such as turning lights off when not in use. Monitoring of their electricity consumption as well as that of a control group will help show whether this translates into real action.

"The audits and the final reports from Carbon Descent were spot on and have given businesses a real road map to follow if they want to reduce their energy consumption over the next year."
