Jo Southernwood


Associate Consultant

Jo  has over 8 years post graduate experience in the environmental sector. Her experience covers a broad range of subjects including renewable & decentralised energy, low carbon buildings, energy efficiency, and climate change mitigation. Jo has worked with a variety of clients including local authorities, SMEs, large businesses, not for profit organisations and charities, managing projects with budgets of up to £0.5 million. 

Experience

  • Local Project Coordinator for ECOSTILER, a European project funded through the CONCERTO stream based in the London Borough of Lambeth and involving the delivery of decentralised and renewable energy feasibility studies, socio economic studies and awareness raising activities with key stakeholder groups.
  • Delivery of energy audits and energy efficiency advice to businesses in Lambeth that are obligated under the Carbon Reduction Commitment Energy Efficiency Scheme to help them reduce their carbon footprint by 5% over a 6 month period.
  • Working with the Islington Climate Change Partnership to help some of their largest members to reduce their carbon footprint and meet their own carbon reduction targets
  • Assessing the viability of reducing carbon emissions by 40% by 2020 in the London Borough of Camden through the development of a scenario that highlights the key measures that must be implemented in the borough to allow this ambitious target to be met.
  • Using Carbon Descent’s VantagePoint modelling tool to estimate technical and economic resource potentials for carbon saving measures, create carbon reduction scenarios for local authorities, and work with them to develop robust climate change strategies.
  • Designing and delivering a workshop for local authority officers on personal carbon trading. The workshop enabled attendees to learn about how carbon trading schemes work in practice and discuss the barriers to implementing a pilot carbon trading scheme within their borough.
