Waltham Forest Carbon Footprint Study

It is now essential for local authorities to plan for a low carbon future. The London Borough of Waltham Forest asked us to calculate their current CO2 emissions generated by the council's activities. It also included an estimate of future emissions based on projected new buildings and growth. Our assessment included emissions from fuel and electricity used in the council's buildings, their own and their contractors' fleet vehicles, staff commute, business travel and waste management.

Following this analysis, we identified ways to streamline future data gathering to include energy consumption with claims such as staff travel expenses. We developed a database tool to enable Waltham Forest to continue to manage this information, calculate their future carbon emissions and identify the source of these emissions.

Quantifying a baseline footprint has enabled the London Borough of Waltham Forest to measure their progress in real terms. Following our report, the London Borough of Waltham Forest commissioned Carbon Descent to expand this report and develop a full Climate Change Strategy with emissions targets until 2050, which launched in September 2008.

Please note the report was written under our previous company name, SEA Renue.
